Amparo María Vázquez García

Biography

Amparo Vázquez is an artist, researcher and teacher. D. in Humanistic and Cultural Studies from the Tecnológico de Monterrey and Ph.D in Social Communication from the Universiteit Antwerpen with an Outstanding Thesis. Approached mainly from audiovisual media, installation, performance and production design, her lines of work comprise space, nostalgia, disenchantment and emptiness, film and gender studies. Fascinated by observing phenomena, she prefers to provoke them. In her works she constantly mutates between colors, spaces, textures and materials, capturing and creating experiences and universes, instants, atmospheres, images, characters and unique and unforgettable stories.

In her artistic and academic training she has received scholarships from CONACYT, Fundación JUMEX, Cátedra Bergman UNAM, CONARTE, CONACULTA and IMCINE. In more than 10 years of experience, she has worked directing and producing photographic, audiovisual, art direction, production design and multidisciplinary art projects. Her work has been exhibited and received awards in Monterrey, Puebla, Durango and Mexico City in Mexico; San Marcos, Texas and Washington D.C. in the United States, Shanghai in China and Leuven in Belgium. Her academic work in Cultural Studies, in the line of cinema and gender, space and image, has been exhibited, received awards, presented, published and granted nationally and internationally.

He began teaching in 2014, participating as a synodal in undergraduate and graduate theses. Since 2018 she is part of the School of Art and Design at the University of Monterrey in the Art Department. With a humanistic approach, she has taught courses in the competency-based educational model, COIL methodology, Disruptive Models, service-based learning and social linkage. Trained in QPR for suicide prevention and protocols against gender violence, being liaison of the School of Art and Design to the Center for Gender Equity and Inclusion UDEM, she is also a member of the Honor Council.

In the Bachelor's Degree in Art she has taught History of Photography, Photography and Digital Media, Photographic Project, Photographic Studio, Multimedia and Video, Video and Sound Art, Basic Production Studio and The Network and Art. She has also been the director of 7 Final Evaluation Projects of the Bachelor of Arts and participated as a synodal in more than 10 PEF. She has been a guest lecturer and has represented the Universidad de Monterrey in international events. In 2020 she collaborates with World Design Organization and UN Women in Generation Equality Challenge. In 2022 she teaches the Masterclass in Graduate Studies at the School of Art and Design UDEM and becomes a member of the Academic Curricular Council for the development of the Doctorate in Art and Design. Nominated for the Fall 2022 Faculty Awards in the category of Internationalization at home. She always seeks excellence and believes in transcending in service.

Amparo is currently the Academic Program Director of the Bachelor of Arts and teaches the courses of Photography Project and Final Evaluation Project.
